Herbert’s Academic Advisors Shine | Herbert College of Agriculture

Herbert has an outstanding and engaged student success advising team! In addition to the phenomenal work our student success advisors do with students, Herbert had full representation at the most recent NACADA Region 3 Conference which UT Knoxville hosted here in February 2022. The UT Knoxville Advising Conference had representation at the Tennessee Association of Student Success and Retention (TASSR,)which we’ve never had before, and even representation at the Sport Recreation Law Association Conference! All of the full-time advisors presented in some capacity at this year’s conference, or at other conferences.

Student Success Advisor Conference Involvement:

Amber Rayborn gave a presentation at NACADA Region 3 titled, “In It to Win It: Introversion in Advising.” She also presented at the UT Knoxville Advising Conference in September 2021.
Sonja Burk and Tickle College of Engineering advisor Rachel Duncan gave a presentation at NACADA Region 3 titled, “An Advisor’s Favorite Things.” They also presented at the UT Knoxville Advising Conference in September 2021 and at the TSSR conference in October 2021.
Anna Will and Brent Lamons gave a presentation NACADA Region 3 focused on the Discover Herbert website and newly developed exploratory advising process, “Zen and the Art of Major Exploration.” They also presented at the UT Knoxville Advising Conference in September 2021.
Jeremy Mobley served on a panel led by Madeline Anderson, a colleague in the College of Arts and Sciences, titled, “What I Learned in My First Year in Advising.”
Colleen Farrell gave a presentation at Sport Recreation Law Association Conference on the topic, “Am I your coach or your agent? An examination of institutional involvement in the World of Name, Image, and Likeness” in February.

Advisor awards and representation

Amber Rayborn—TennACADA vice president and will rotate to president next year; in 2022 was selected to receive the Chancellor’s Advising Award

Sonja Burk—Tennessee Association of Student Success and Retention (TSSR) area representative for East Tennessee, a first for UT Knoxville.

Jeremy Mobley—Received NACADA New Advisor Award at NACADA’s annual meeting in October 2021.
