Turning Passion for Animals into a Career at Herbert: Jayme Ozburn

Jayme Ozburn of Lewisburg, Tennessee, is graduating from the Herbert College of Agriculture with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. With the help of influential professors, Jayme had many opportunities throughout his time at UT to explore his passion for animals and learned to translate it into a career in the animal agriculture industry.

How would you describe your experience in the Herbert College of Agriculture?

My experience in Herbert has been amazing, and I have met so many lifelong friends that I will continue to connect with after I graduate. Not to mention the many professors that develop their students and mold them into agriculture advocates.

What was your favorite class and/or who is your favorite professor?

It is difficult to narrow down my favorite classes to just one, but if I had to name a couple, one of them would have to be Food Science 150 with Dr. Golden, which is the History and Culture of Food. One of my other favorites is Animal Science 420 with Dr. Edwards that covers advanced reproductive technologies.

Choosing a favorite professor can be even more difficult, as there are so many professors dedicated to the well-being of their students. To name a few of my favorites are Dr. Kyle McLean, Jessy Shanks Harris, Dr. Shelli Rampold and Dr. Edwards. All these professors and many more at UT have molded me into the well-rounded student I am today.

What is one of your favorite memories during your time at UT?

One of my personal favorite moments at UT was my first block and bridle roundup where we participated in showing different species with many of my peers. Everyone around me was doing things that we love and bonding over the animals that we are so passionate about. This passion for the animal agriculture industry is what made me love Herbert and UT.

How has being a Herbert student impacted your life?

Herbert has contributed many opportunities to my life, including professors who have given me chances to better myself. Hebert gave me the opportunity to travel the country evaluating livestock with some of my closest friends. It has also given me an opportunity to better my education and express my passion through many different avenues.

What are your plans for after graduation?

After graduation I will be starting a master’s program in Precision Dairy Technologies here at UT, working with dairy producers and propelling the dairy industry to the next technological level.
