The University of Tennessee’s Forage Bowl Team proudly represented the Herbert College of Agriculture at the 2026 American Forage and Grassland Council’s Forage Bowl Competition.

This Jeopardy-style contest for undergraduate teams tests students’ knowledge on topics such as forage identification, plant physiology, grazing management, soil health, and more. UT’s team earned third place at the event—a considerable accomplishment given the quality of competition from other schools across the country.

The Forage Bowl took place during the American Forage and Grassland Council (AFGC) Conference in Asheville, North Carolina, January 12–15. During the conference, students engaged in networking, knowledge exchange, and showcased Tennessee’s commitment to sustainable forage production.

Members of this year’s team include: Linus Parrish, Maggie Lindsey, Callie Rule, and Sam Jones. The team is coached by UT Extension Beef Cattle Nutrition Specialist Katie Mason, and Bruno Pedreira, UT Extension Forage Specialist and Director of the UT Beef and Forage Center.

Pedreira said, “Dr. Mason and I are very proud of our UT Forage Bowl Team’s accomplishments during the AFGC Annual Meeting. They did a great job answering forage questions and demonstrating how well the Herbert College of Agriculture prepares our students.”

The team’s participation and strong finish reflect Herbert’s commitment to support hands-on learning and equip students for impactful careers.
