Taylor Miller of Santa Cruz, California, graduated this spring from the Herbert College of Agriculture with a Master of Science in Entomology and Plant Pathology. From presenting research at conferences to getting hands-on experience and interacting directly with the Tennessee agriculture community, Taylor’s time at UT has fully prepared her for a career in plant pathology.

How would you describe your experience in the Herbert College of Agriculture?

My experience in the Herbert College of Agriculture was fulfilling academically and professionally. I was able to take interesting classes and sit in on informative seminars to prepare me for a career in plant pathology. In addition, I had the opportunity to go to conferences and represent the Herbert College of Agriculture while presenting my research. The resources, including physical materials, the ag-campus library and wonderful faculty members in the Herbert College of Agriculture allowed me to succeed during my graduate degree.

What was your favorite class and/or who is your favorite professor?

Dr. Kimberly Gwinn taught Biopesticides (EPP 516), and it was exciting to see the research being conducted to find new sustainable, pesticidal solutions to protect crops!

What is one of your favorite memories during your time at UT?

My favorite memory at UT was painting the Rock with my fellow EPP graduate students. It made me feel a part of the UT community by participating in this tradition, and I was able to get to know my peers.

How has being a Herbert student impacted your life?

My time in the Herbert College of Agriculture provided me real-world experience and training from being able to interact directly with the Tennessee agriculture community at Extension events and throughout my research. I think this type of exposure is so impactful for students to support the state’s agriculture success, as well as help drive their professional goals.

What are your plans for after graduation?

I accepted a job as a Technical Service Manager for the agrochemical company, UPL. In this position, I will utilize my plant pathology knowledge to provide solutions to growers and retailers.
